Our Mission

The goal of GGC is to teach gymnastics in a comfortable atmosphere that is enjoyable and fun yet stresses the importance of progression and striving for excellence. We believe the benefits of our competitive program go beyond physical and competitive aspects. We believe it also teaches:

  • Mental discipline
  • Cooperation and the importance of being a good teammate
  • The importance of dedication and commitment
  • Goal setting and perseverance in achieving those goals
  • That winning can be a goal - just not only, nor is it the most important goal
  • How to win and lose with grace and humility

We feel that these aspects will transcend a gymnast's participation on the team and will become successful attributes they will use throughout their lifetime. Through a knowledgeable and caring staff, we work to the level of the individual and strive to bring out their potentials as a gymnast and a person. We do not pressure athletes into skills that the gymnast is not physically or mentally ready to perform.

I love the sport of gymnastics.  Aside from my feeling that no other sport matches its aesthetic and artistic merits with the astonishing and sometimes mind-boggling athleticism quite the same as gymnastics.  I also embrace the many other positive facets that gymnastics helps to develop in our young people.  Having an environment that helps to nurture better high self-esteem, self-confidence, friendships and the importance of teamwork will always be main priorities for me as a coach and program director working with young people.

Outside of gymnastics, I love spending time with my wife of 28 years, Kelly, my son Kurtis and my daughter Kelcey (and her husband James).

I started gymnastics when we moved to Puyallup at 4-1/2 years old. I competed the compulsory levels at the Mel Korum YMCA, and then, moved over to Grace to compete optionals. I have been coaching for 13 years now, ranging from pre-school gymnastics to level 10. Throughout my career, I have coached multiple event and all-around state/regional champions and locked in two state team titles in a row...all while coaching with Kevin! I'd say we are a pretty good duo! When I was younger I always said I was going to be a school teacher. As I got older, I thought I was going to become an accountant, but when I started coaching, nothing else interested me anymore. I knew I wanted to continue coaching. It is so much more than a job to me...It's my PASSION! I absolutely love working with young athletes who are determined to fight even through the hard times this sport always brings. I love that I can be a positive influence and role model for each girl I coach. It's extremely rewarding. When I'm not in the gym, my time is spent with my husband, Kegan, my son, Owen, our dog, Cooper, Jesus and the rest of our family and friends. We are expecting baby boy #2 in January so our lives are going to get even crazier and busier J Looking forward to a great season. GO GRACE!

I started gymnastics back in the old days! inspired by Olga Korbet! When we vaulted over a horse and the bars were adjusted to fit each person by height. I Competed for my Junior High and High School teams. My Favorite event, (just like All the Hamlins), was beam.

I started Volunteering here in the gym 22 years ago, when my oldest was in Toddler gym. Over time I became more and more involved and about 18 years ago became an employee. I began coaching the Advanced preschool class and fell in love with making a difference in these young lives. This is when I decided my goal...."Change the World one child at a time!!" I have been coaching in this gym for 18 years now and have coached from Preschool up to level 6. I have raised 4 daughters during my time here at Grace and feel like it is my second home. Three of those daughters were very successful gymnasts in this program and fell in Love with this sport just like I did way back when!! I also work full time for the City of Tacoma for the past 26 years in their IT department.
